The main focus is at the public-private partnership model of the development of infrastructure. Around 120 crores deal was signed by the state government for the development of EV manufacturing spaces. These ventures will be established in the state by Greman Mahle electric and Japan’s Neissei. Another step taking by the government towards the development is by using spaces of the industries that have the unfinished infrastructure and unutilized spaces by using the areas in exchange of payment of the lease as an alternative.
Ayush Lohiya, CEO of EV maker Lohia auto quoted “With the government’s decision to go electric by 2030, the industry needs to strategise and plan out a route map to deliver results on time. EV parks should help both manufacturers and suppliers.” One of the biggest automobile manufacturers Hyundai has already committed to investing in its plant near Chennai for the development of EV vehicles. Provision for fixing the tariff for EV charging will also be looked upon by the state’s electricity regulators. The Chennai metro has already installed the charging point at one of its stations in the city. These initiatives are expected to soon enhance the overall market of EV in the state.
